Jonny Bird – Founder, Lead Instructor

Having grown up in Northumberland, Jonny was introduced to wild places from an early age – since then it has become his passion to share them, and help others to become safe and independent in the mountains. Jonny has 15 years of experience climbing and hiking across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, in addition to the very highly regarded Mountain Leader (ML), Rock Climbing Instructor (RCI) and Foundation Coach (FCA) qualifications. He founded Wild Mile Adventure in 2021 to share his passion with others.

I’ve been climbing with Jonny twice and he also led myself and a team of friends up Helvellyn via striding edge in October last year. He is a really calm and friendly person, his knowledge is fantastic and he taught us plenty of techniques for navigation in a way that was easy and intuitive to understand. These have come in handy since, when scrambling in poor visibility and conditions.

It’s obvious that he’s passionate about being outdoors and this passion is infectious, I can’t recommend Wild Mile enough!
